Welcome to Cape Haze Peninsula and Placida

Easy beach access and a simple way of life here on the Cape Haze Peninsula!

The Cape Haze Peninsula is an environmentally protected stretch of land that includes the charming community of Placida. This is a quiet, hidden paradise surrounded by water, with mainland amenities and the beautiful barrier islands of Boca Grande, Little Gasparilla, Don Pedro, Knight, and Palm Island.

The lands and waters around the Cape Haze Peninsula were occupied for thousands of years by native Americans who lived primarily off the sea. In the late 19th century, fishing and farming settlements developed on the Cape Haze peninsula, and finally the area was developed for residential use by the Vanderbilt brothers in the early 1950s.

Known for its natural beauty and wildlife, the area offers its residents and visitors a peaceful, laid-back location where one can enjoy a day in the sun and finish the day with a beautiful sunset. Placida offers a quality mix of waterfront living without the hustle and bustle of nearby larger cities. There are no master-planned communities and no high rises — just a quiet, close-knit residential community.

With your choice of outdoor activities like golfing, boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, bird watching, shopping, or just relaxing, there is something to enjoy for everyone.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

When you live in Cape Haze, it’s likely that staff at local eateries and area shopkeepers will know you by name. Our favorite place to grab a drink is Rum Bay; with its fantastic views, great seafood, and buzzy atmosphere, this spot is an absolute must-try! Drive here or boat-in because their convenient location makes it readily accessible.

Leverock’s Restaurant is another popular boat-in spot for its open-air bistro-style ambiance and excellent seafood. They are situated right on the marina, have a full bar, and offer the best stuffed grouper around. Charming Cape Haze Tavern is a local favorite that’s great for a special occasion. Here, you can enjoy a glass of wine paired with a robust seafood selection.

Things To Do

While this has a small-town feel, you will never get bored on Cape Haze. These are the things locals love to do most:

Gasparilla Marina, Placida Cove, and the Anglers Club are at the southern tip of the Cape Haze Peninsula which all have access to the Cape Haze Aquatic Preserve. This aquatic preserve is a maze of islands and shallow passages, where freshwater fish meet saltwater fish amongst the mangrove forests. If you own a kayak or canoe, this is where you want to spend some time!

Alternatively, if you’re a motorboat enthusiast, the popular local destinations include Boca Grande Pass, the Gulf of Mexico, Cayo Costa, Punta Gorda's Fisherman's Village, the Intracoastal Waterway, Captiva, Sanibel Island, Englewood Beach, Venice Beach, and Cabbage Key.

Prime fishing is found in Lemon Bay, Stump Pass, and the Gulf of Mexico. Known for its abundance of redfish, grouper, and snook, this area is also known as the “Tarpon Capital of the World!” The Eagle Preserve is located just a bit north of Cape Haze and was started as an initiative to preserve the local nesting bald eagles.

Florida is a golfer's dream and draws more golfers than any other state. The Lemon Bay Golf Club is a gorgeous course frequented by many residents! Other popular courses include Rotonda Golf & Country Club The Links Golf Course, Coral Creek Club, and Myakka Pines Golf Club

Nearby Englewood presents year-round cultural events, lovely parks, and a bevy of recreational areas that host outdoor activities.

The "Out Islands" (Don Pedro, Palm, and Little Gasparilla) are pristine, residential islands that have remained unspoiled and enhanced by 7 miles of tropical, sandy white beaches. Many people here start or end their day by going “shelling” on the white sandy beaches here on the peninsula.

Schools

Nearby Englewood prides itself as having one of the finest school systems in Southwest Florida and you can find Vineland Elementary and Lemon Bay High School in that district.

For higher education, Florida Southwestern College is a nearby option for those who want to take classes or pursue a degree.
